Grade 6 Tour
Day 1
Beep beep … the alarm clocks go off, after a night with almost no sleep we had to wake up early one Monday morning to be at school by 6:15. Finally by 7:10 everybody was on the bus and we were all excited, when we heard the buses engines start, we knew that this was going to be a four-hour trip. We only had one stop and that was about one and a half hours away. Everybody go really excited when they saw the sign Waterval Boven and Camp Trevor. When Bosman approached us, he told us what was going to happen. We were taken to our dorms and were told to meet Bosman, Cyan and Isaac at the volleyball net in about 15 minutes. It was a fight to see who got the best bed! At the volleyball nets we did a few activities. We were split into 6 groups and had to use our brains to make a name and war cry. After lunch we did a few leadership activities, after that it was supper and then tuck. That night we walked up a hill where Bosman told us the story of Oom Trevor. When we got back it was lights out.
Day 2
We had oats for breakfast and then the 6 groups were split up between the 3 activities – tree climbing, rock climbing and foefie slide. To me the tree climbing was the best. After that it was lunch and then a game – we were to find natural products like a leaf each starting with one letter of the alphabet. After that we got into our costumes and went on another hike to the bum slide where we also swam on the tubes. When we got back it was suppertime and we set off to play Stalk the Lantern. The lantern was probably about a few meters away from the starting line and we all ended up following Mr. Mitchley who totally went off course. When we got back we had jelly and custard and because no one had found the lantern, lights went out at exactly 22:00.
Day 3
After breakfast we got our stuff ready and set off on the 9km hike to the king swing. Surprisingly no one got really tired except for when we had to climb a steep mountain. Mrs. Krynauw and a few other children rested half way because they were tired and it was very hot. We all jumped with joy when we heard water; there in the mountains was a natural mini waterfall. When we all jumped in it we felt so cool and the water was ice cold. We probably spent 45 minutes there, after which we had to carry on walking. We finally got there and we were starving. When the food came most of us had seconds. Bosman gave us a demonstration and we all thought it would be cool swinging upside down. It was scary when you first went but it was so much fun that we wanted to go twice but then Bosman said no. After that we went to the tunnels and saw a much bigger waterfall on the other side. When we got back it was suppertime, then tuck and then we went to the same area where the lantern was. There we sang songs while the others were doing the nightline. The lights out was at 22:30.
Day 4
After breakfast we went to Sue’s farm where we did seven activities – the barrel race, small obstacle course, big obstacle course, horse riding, cross the dam, push me – pull me and orienteering. We basically spent the whole day there. When we got close to the end of the day we only found out that we were supposed to present a play for the campfire concert that night. Everybody was working on it. When we got back we had supper and then worked on our plays. The plays weren’t too bad – one of my favourite was the tribal counsel. The lights went out at 23:00.
Day 5
We all woke up early to pack our bags. After breakfast we said our goodbyes and thank yous, got onto the bus and left at 9am. This time it wasn’t as tiring because everybody had something to do, like writing in diaries and singing songs. We finally got to school half an hour before school ended. We were sad but also excited to see our families.
We would like to thank Mr. Mitchley and Mrs. Krynauw for coming with us.
