Grade 4 Tour

In October 66 grade 4 learners and two teachers spent an enjoyable and educational 3 days at the Wigwam Hotel in Rustenberg.

En route we stopped at the Elephant Sanctuary at Hartebeespoort dam and the learners were able to touch and feed the elephants. They were most amused by the way elephant dung is an indication of the health of the animal. According to the guide if it is like a “muffin” the elephant is healthy, but if it is like “chocolate mousse” the elephant has a problem!!

After lunch the tour continued on to an Ostrich Farm and then to a Bushman Village when they watched the San make beads and fire.

On the second day the group went on a very interesting game drive. On the way home the buses stopped at Van Gaalen Cheese Farm and the learners discovered the secrets of cheese making. The cheese tasting was  a hit, though no one was prepared to sample a bit of the aptly named ‘Stinky Cheese’.

The tour was a great success and enjoyed by all.
