Community Service

The Hurlyvale family is very generous in the support of others in our community.

Grade 4 learners collect litter

It is our problem! This was the motto of the Grade 4 pupils at Hurlyvale Primary School when, last Friday, they decided to clean up the open area near the school. Armed with dustbin bags and gloves, they picked up rubbish and litter along the banks and edges of the spruit that runs through Hurlyvale. Congratulations to the Grade 4 learners who filled 80 bags with rubbish and showed we can all make a difference!

A letter of thanks from the community.....

1st August 2008

Dear Grade 4 Learners

Ever since seeing you clean up our park we have been meaning to say thank you for doing just that. Then when we saw the picture in the Edenvale News we said now we really must put pen to paper. Well done boys and girls! You have helped to make our daily walk there even more enjoyable. An especially big thank you from Christopher Elliott to those boys who found his “lost golf balls” and then rushed up to give them to him. He was so chuffed.

What a great idea and thanks to the teachers who helped to make this little adventure possible.

All good wishes from

Christopher and Jean Elliott at 10 Chesire Rd, Hurlyvale.

Grade 4 learners donations to Child Welfare.

Every year the grade 4 learners collect food to donate to the Edenvale Child and Family Welfare. Here Shabre Thomas is collecting the donated food on behalf of the Edenvale Child Welfare.

Collections for the victims of Xenophobia.

The learners of Hurlvyale Primary were touched in a very real way by the xenophobic attacks that have recently been in the news and the number of people who have been displaced from their homes.

The learners of the school then decided to collect various goods for distribution to the centres that are currently housing these people. They collected food, blankets, toys and magazines.

Yet again it is wonderful to see the compassion felt by the families of Hurlyvale Primary and we thank the parents, learners and teachers for that.
